Barber Accepted to Honors College at MSU

Kaitlyn Barber has recently been accepted to the Shackouls Honors College at Mississippi State University.  Students are admitted based on several criteria: high school GPA, class rank, standardized test scores, a record of academic and extracurricular involvement as shown on the MSU online scholarship resume, and an application essay. The typical Honors College freshman achieved approximately a 30 ACT composite score and a 3.8 high school GPA.

Kaitlyn has also received, through the honors college, a study abroad scholarship.  The Honors College strongly encourages Mississippi State students to develop a global perspective through study abroad. Beyond the exposure to other peoples and other cultures, the Honors College also seeks to connect students to international universities and agencies of the highest caliber. The unique Shackouls Summer Study at the University of Oxford places honors students in the top Oxford colleges and gives them the true Oxford experience by having them taught by Oxford faculty in England.

She has also accepted the Freshman Academic Excellence Scholarship $20,000 from MSU as a result of her GPA and her outstanding high school academic record.  Kaitlyn also was awarded the Herb and Cheryl Frierson Endowed Scholarship for her freshman year.  She will also receive the Mississippi Eminent Scholarship due to her 30 on the ACT.

Kaitlyn will attend Mississippi State University in the fall of 2017 in Starkville.  She is majoring in Animal and Dairy Science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences with an emphasis in Pre-Veterinarian Studies.  She will also be in the Shackouls Honors College this fall and study abroad in the summer after her freshman year.

Kaitlyn is a senior at Poplarville High School and a dual enrolled student at Pearl River Community College.  She is on PHS soccer team and tennis team.
